Hello! I apologize for being a terrible, terrible blogger and bloggy friend! The past month and a half have been quite hectic, while undergoing a transition period:) I think of you guys often, believe it or not...Seriously!:) With my busy schedule, I must admit that I've been in a style rut, as well. I'm attempting to muster the motivation to get out of it. It's proving to be quite difficult, especially with this chilly and wet weather. We enjoyed beautiful weather last week...it felt like late spring smack in the middle of January:) We took advantage of the weather as much as possible and hit up Malibu for some much needed downtime. The joy of family gatherings, the excitement of Christmas morning, the familiar aroma of homemade food and goodies - what else could be better? Christmas is one of the best occasions that remind us how thankful we should be to have such loving family and caring people in our lives. Years after years, those who sit with us at the dining table on Christmas are the ones who stay with us through the lowest and the highest points in our lives. Those people are someone who truly loves you and loves you unconditinally no matter how naughty or nice you have been. Those people are the ones who will never leave your side.

People do stupid things at some points in their lives. We often care about total strangers who never care for us. We spend all time doing all kinds of things to impress people whom we only meet for a few days. We cry and feel hurt by people who never care how we feel.

At the end of the day, your family is the one who always cares and loves you. Everything else in this world can be replaced but not the family - your dad, your mom, your brother, your sister, your grandparents, your uncles or your aunts. We sometimes let the Christmas shopping take away the real meaning of Christmas. We run all over town trying to find the perfect gifts for everyone.

Perhaps, all they want to hear is a simple sweet reminder that you "love" and care for them too.

Gifts for Your Favorite Bookworm

Hi Owl's Closet Readers! This is Lar from AsianCajuns (one half of the Chinese and Cajun duo that writes the AsianCajun blog). The lovely AB asked us to post on something holiday related, and I stumbled across these items just in the nick of time: last minute prezies for your literary friends.

Cath (my twin and other AsianCajun) and I are both big fat book worms. So in essence, the items in this post allow me to online shop for myself while dropping big hints to those who know me (wink, wink). But I do hope it gives you guys some last minute ideas for gifting too.

I loooove these book tees and sweatshirts by Out of Print. Like most young ladies, we can't pass up good Pride and Prejudice paraphernalia. But if you aren't a Jane Austen fan, there are plenty of other classics (tees) to wet your reading appetite. (Note to self: finally finish Moby Dick so that you can buy the sweatshirt without feeling like you are being sartorially hypocritical). They also come in mens sizes. I've already bought my bf the Brave New World tee.

Now these are a bit pricey, but I'm sure there is a great DIY just waiting to happen: novel clutches by Olympia Le-Tan. I might try my hand at one over the holiday break: a little felt and some embroidery... et voila!

Snow was already swept away over the weekend, thankfully I managed to have another outfit post before it was totally gone. For days, I was thinking what I can offer here as a guest blogger, I'm quite honored really!

My pictures speak for itself, I'm definitely a happy bubbly person. Previous years had brought me lots of lesson in life, I learned to take it easy and never worry. Enjoy life to the fullest and think happy thoughts everyday, it will make you feel better.

Moving on, I'd like to share with you the concert that my family got invited to, it was called "Christmas with Claire Teal and the RTE Concert Orchestra". I tweaked my outfit a little bit by putting a shawl over my LBD and removed my stockings...

The concert was held in National Concert Hall, which is truly majestic for jazz kind of music, the orchestra played like magic to my ears, as I closed my eyes I felt like I was flying and dreaming… Ahhhhh I love that feeling.

Before I start can I just say a big thank you to AB for asking me to guest post on her blog! When she first asked I will be honest I didn’t quite know what I was going to blog about! There I was sitting on my bed, staring out into space and without really realising I found myself staring at the stocking hanging on my fireplace and it hit me, a Christmas post! Hello, fellow Owl Closet-ers! This is Sher from Beneath The Crystal Stars, sitting in for the lovely AB as she takes out some much needed time to rest and recuperate.

With it being the month of December already, I'm sure you are as excited as AB and I for the coming holiday season. So for this guest post, I thought it would be fun to somehow incorporate a lil bit of the Christmas spirit in this mini-holiday photoshoot! I mean, what will Christmas be without some bright colourful lights, right? I was decked in this outfit which came together from the idea of wearing a single ribbon makeshift tie. I loved how the ribbon sort of made the outfit slightly preppy-ish. Of course, I added a little bit of fun to the outfit by pairing it with my leopard purse and flats. I understand that the leopard print may not be for everyone but I find that it does give that extra something to your outfit whenever you want your outfit to pop! And sometimes when I really want my outfit to pop, I go crazy with seemingly un-matching colors too!

Well, this is as preppy I can get without wearing too many layers as it was a pretty hot day. Hope you dear readers enjoyed my mini-holiday photoshoot! I had lots of fun preparing for it and can't thank AB enough for this lovely opportunity to guest post. Guest Post: Sweet Drops of Gold

What an honor to be guest posting... thank you sweet AB! I have now lived in Paris for eight and a half years. This city of glamour radiates the best outside the holiday season. Don't get me wrong, the delectable cinnamon season scents and dainty busyness are surely around, but the utmost spirit, the touching Christmas carols and forever strong childhood memory building don't truly happen here. What this metropolises of vogue has taught me though, is something that gives me pleasure all year round, at Noël period as well as any other. In Paris folks take the time to enjoy a cup of steaming hot espresso. They wander the slightly snow powdered streets in clicking heels and purchase a dandy box of mini pastries - mighty macarons - to take as a precious gift to the black and white dressed party host, charmingly battling to open his bottle of champagne.

This then has me pondering. What if this year as Christmas celebrations gently embrace me, I tried savoring every drop of sweetness I gather. Slowly. Appreciatively. What if I took a spoonful of that luscious, moist chocolate cake, closed my golden eye shadow sparkling eyes and asked myself "what is it that really I feel?" I could sit at a busy café and look at by-goers and wonder "how can their personal style inspire me?" I would surely adore listening to an old CD stoked somewhere in the house. I could pop it in and luxuriate on the honeyed nostalgia "why did I like this then and how can it bring me back that joyfulness today, or better yet an extra helping?"

Living the lovely life - here and now - adoring every drop of it. That is my challenge - would you like it to be yours alike this snowy season? If yes, think sweet, think pink, when sipping champagne or having a talk with someone you've loved for long... or just met!

Out of Commission

My attempt at blingin' out my brace;)

Please bear with me and my slow reply/blog visitations the past few days. This time, I don't have the usual internet/laptop problems excuses (lol!), instead my right hand is out of commission due to carpal tunnel. The doctor ordered me to stay away from the computer and wear the brace above until further notice:( It's my own fault for ignoring the signs nearly a month ago (i.e. weakness in my hand, wrist pains, etc.) and now the pain has extended to my forearms. I'm right handed and sadly, simple tasks such as blow drying my hair and brushing my teeth causes discomfort. Ugh! Even typing for just a few minutes yield discomfort and pain (I know I'm being a noncompliant patient right now by blogging haha). I'm determined not to allow carpal tunnel to bring me down...here are a few small details that are getting me through the week:)

Getting into the holiday spirit with this USB powered mini Christmas tree from Target (just $6.99!). It makes me smile as it stands in all its glitz while I work:)

I seriously could not keep still this weekend and took my brace off to make these sweet potato fries. Totally worth the momentary discomfort;) I also made a refreshing dip with this recipe via The Worldwide Gourmet.

The Christmas tree was up early at my parents' home. We LOVE the holidays and we're attempting to extend the cheery decor as long as possible haha!

It's beginning to look like sample sale season and I'm living on the wrong coast of the US! My east coast friends, specifically ones who live in NY, how lucky are you guys ?? I received a few notices in my inbox and I'm absolutely green with envy. If I could jet off to New York for a week and hit up these sample sales...perhaps, I'll get my holiday shopping done;) I keep hearing that these sales are legendary! Then again, maybe it's a good thing I'm on the west coast. I might end up holiday shopping for myself, instead haha!

Freedom and Fashion Part II

Here is part two of my evening at the Freedom and Fashion show this past weekend. As mentioned on my previous post, this awesome event raised awareness about human trafficking, sex labor and the astounding numbers that exist today. I began reading Not For Sale: The Return of the Global Slave Trade by David Batstone (co-founder of Not For Sale) this week. In his book, Batstone mentioned the discovery of a modern-day slave trafficking-ring near his home. Unbeknownst to him, he had been a regular patron of an Indian restaurant staffed by modern-day slaves. It struck me that this could occur or could be happening (right now!) in our backyard and not just thousands of miles away...I apologize in advance for the picture overload, but I wanted to share with you guys more organizations and fair-trade companies that support the cause. Perhaps, these items below and ones from my previous post would make great holiday presents:)

Dr. E was among the musical guests that evening. As a survivor of human trafficking, she had a powerful testimony and shares her uplifting message through music. In addition to her musical talents, she is a professor at Ohio State University. Isn't that an amazing story of survival?:)

Punjammies by the International Princess Project are premium pajamas made by women in India, who have been exploited and trapped by sex labor. The organization employ these women and provide them with an alternative way to earn a living, in addition to "holistic support and restoration."

"Buy a bag, change a village." Tag Bag is an organization that aids the people of Kayamandi in South Africa. The town's population of 25,000 live in one square mile and are plagued with AIDS. These unique bags above are constructed by the town's people from South African license plates.

NAEM Denim is a fair trade company that follows strict ethical guidelines in the production of each piece. The NAEM Denim booth fed my jean addiction;) Kicking myself for not grabbing the velvety black skinnies above at a major sale price (ugh!).

The line also utilizes fair-trade practices and local manufacturing. A percentage of sales are donated to the International Fund for Animal Welfare and the Pachamama Alliance.

Freedom and Fashion

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to attend the Freedom and Fashion Fair-Trade Fashion Show in Irvine. It was an inspiring event that utilized fashion to raise awareness and fight against human trafficking and sex labor. I also enjoyed speaking with vendors on the various booths and listen to their mission and focus! I was aware of the injustices related to this industry, but I never realized the magnitude of the problem. Did you know that there are more slaves today than during the height of the Trans-Atlantic slave trade? According to Not For Sale, more than 30 million people are enslaved today...isn't this statistic mind blowing??

Jeannie Mai of the Style Network's How Do I Look? hosted the show. I adore her spunky personality and let me tell you, she's a girl with substance! Oh and she cracks me up!

The energy and passion for this cause was contagious! From the host, Jeannie Mai to the volunteers and especially from Bonnie Kim, the founder of Freedom and Fashion. Bonnie's drive to begin a creative arts organization, that provides a platform for fair-trade businesses and non-profits fighting human trafficking and sex labor, started with a volunteer stint with Nighlight. Listening to the presentations and browsing through the literature during this event was heart wrenching. I suppose it was difficult for me to comprehend that these injustices still exists in our day and age.

The evening's theme was redemption, which was reflected on the pieces sent down the runway from both non-profits and fair trade vendors. Unfortunately, most of my runway shots were blurry! The place was packed and once the door opened, a stampede to find seats ensued! I wasn't quick and stealthy enough and ended up sitting behind three guys with tall hedgehog hair cuts towards the back row. Sigh...I was too short to peer over their hair and capture the outfits. Hopefully, the runway pictures will be up on the website and I'll post it here another day. For now here are a few pictures from the event:)

This collection featured cozy ponchos and wraps by Anita Arze. Her eco line is based on her Bolivian roots and aims to provide "sustainable employment in developing economies."

A few of my favorites from Anita Arze's Fall 2010 collection. I had to squeeze my way through the crowd of girls fawning over the rack of ponchos and wraps at Anita's booth lol All her pieces are well made!

Toms was a sponsor for the event and donated $1000 worth of shoes. One of the girls at the booth wore the cutest black sequined pair! I purchased the book above from Not For Sale, another organization fighting to abolish modern day slavery.

My first encounter with Falling Whistles was a feature on celebs wearing the pieces above. Proceeds from their sales aid in rehabilitating and advocating children affected by the war in Congo. The roots of the organization began with a journal written about young boys sent to the frontlines armed with just a whistle.

Nightlight provides support for women and children exploited by the sex industry through providing them with an economic alternative. They also provide intervention for those victimized and empower them to work and live in their community.

There are more fair-trade and non-profits that I would like to share with you guys:) Sorry for the picture overload LOL I was truly blown away by the event and especially by the people involved. Many are simply volunteers who willingly give up their time and effort for this cause. Belated Halloween

Happy Belated Halloween! I have missed you guys! How were your celebrations? My laptop is nearly fixed and the internet is somewhat behaving. Hopefully, I'll have a more consistent connection this week! Last weekend, we celebrated amongst the crowds of West Hollywood at the WeHo Halloween Carnival. My friend mentioned that it felt like Disneyland since we stopped to take pictures with random costumed people lol I was blown away with the elaborate costumes everyone made! So much creativity paraded down Santa Monica Boulevard! If you ever plan to go next year, a word of caution...it's not for the easily offended (also mentioned on the website) haha! Overall, it was a FUN evening with lots of laughs!:)

Hello, Friends! I apologize for another extended absence. Last week was a bit hectic and I wasn't feeling well. I spent most of this weekend resting and taking long naps:) Sorry for the picture overload above, but I just wanted to share with you guys snapshots from last weekend in Santa Monica. It was a damp and chilly day, but it didn't stop us from embarking on a food adventure at The Huntley. My friend snagged an awesome coupon through Open Table for a meal at the hotel's rooftop restaurant, The Penthouse ($25 for $50 worth of food!! Wowsers). A glass elevator took restaurant patrons to the top and upon arrival, the area was enclosed with large windows with sweeping views of the city. I still can't get over the modern decor! Needless to say, we took our time taking lots of pictures both up top and in the hotel lobby. We received strange looks, but whateves!;) Hope you're all having a wonderful weekend! Man, this makes me want to throw on a cape & run errands on a vespa.

Can't believe this weekend flew by! Did you guys have a good one? As much as I enjoy everything camel this season, I'm also loving this shade paired with flashes of color. I spent a damp and chilly day in Santa Monica (still had fun times with a friend, though!) and took a cue from this gorgeous British Vogue editorial to beat the dreary weather. I added a bit of color to my neutral attire with a fun bag & cocktail ring. It's funny how seemingly insignificant details can inject a bit of energy! This editorial has made its rounds on the blogosphere, but I just had to share it again! The spread inspired me to do my own camel/color pairings with reds and blues, all under $100!

White Halloween

It seems that this week will never end and I must admit that I'm feeling a bit sluggish. At the same time, my complaints are petty compared to the ordeal of the Chile miners! How amazing was it to hear that all 33 miners were rescued?! Just this evening, all 6 rescuers resurfaced safely! I can't begin to imagine being trapped underground for more than two months and the relief each person must feel as they reunited with their families! I have a closet dilemma...I seem to be lacking in the basics department. As I'm organizing my winter and summer clothing, I came to the realization that I own cardis, sweaters and tanks in an array of colors. Seriously, name the color and I probably have it! I really need to invest in neutral tones (would you believe that I only own two black cardigans that needs to be retired STAT?!) and resist the urge to buy more vibrant colored tanks and sweaters. Have you guys seen Linda Evangelista's fall campaign for Talbots?? Wowsers, she still has it, alright. She looked stunning, as always! I am guilty of being skeptical when I first read the news of Talbot's new campaign. During my teens, I can still recall tagging along with my mom while she shopped at Talbots, as I impatiently waited to move on to a more "modern" store. Fast forward ten years later and the company's new image has exceeded my expectations. They have managed to remain true to what they know and still cater to their current patrons. Yet, they have expanded to include a younger target group with the addition of modern classics. Take a look at their Holiday 2010 Lookbook below...I would wear these pieces in a heartbeat! I think I may need a pair of glittery gold peep toe heels in my life;)

Talbots has also launched a new denim line that caters to women of all shapes and sizes. The line carries an impressive selection of styles such as slim leg ankle jeans, trousers, boyfriend and much more. Even more impressive is the sizing of the individual styles in apparel, petite, woman petite and woman. I believe I've mentioned it here a few times, but I think I may be a denim addict:) Imagine how thrilled I was when they offered to send me a pair of my choice! Since I have been somewhat obsessed with wider leg pants, lately, I chose the trouser jeans in night rinse (size 0 Petite).

Pros: Love the color and the style of these jeans. The leg opening is the perfect width and just what I've been looking for. Also, loving the length of these jeans since I'm vertically challenged (just under 5'3"). Thank goodness I won't have to get these hemmed:) The dark night rinse is such a versatile color and will look great dressed up or down. My favorite feature of all is the comfiness of these jeans!

Cons: As much as I love the style of this pair, I was a bit disappointed with the fit along the thigh area. It was a tad too big and was not as fitted as seen on the model in the lookbook. There was also some gaping along the waist area, but easily fixed with a belt. To my fellow petites, 0P is the smallest size, but it fits more like a 2P, perhaps?

Despite the minor issues above, I'm still a fan of these jeans! A big thank you to Talbots and Red Chair Confessions for this awesome opportunity! Please check out Talbot's newest denim line when you get the chance:)

It seems that I say this almost always on the beginning of a new month but...how is it October, already?!:) October is also National Breast Cancer Awareness month. This disease has touched my family in the past and just last week, a very dear friend of the family was diagnosed with breast cancer. I'm in complete shock because I have known her all my life and she always seemed to be in perfect health. We are praying for her and her family to get through this and for her complete recovery. I won't stand on my soap box:) but I just wanted to encourage everyone to educate yourself about this disease and be aware that early detection is key. No fancy pants band. Just Brian McKnight & the keyboard. Took me back to highschool, where everyone's "song" was Back at One;)

In preparation for October's National Breast Cancer Awareness month, Be Aware Foundation organized Songs for Hope, a free concert at The Grove featuring Brian McKnight, Michael Bolton and Mindi Abair. Did I scream like a school girl when Brian crooned the smooth sounds of 6,8,12? YES, more like SQUEALED like a school girl;) We also had the opportunity to watch the celebs walk the pink carpet (yes, pink!) just 3 feet away!! We fit in with the mob of paparazzi in front of us, fully equipped with our cameras. I must admit I only knew less than half the celebs that walked the carpet LOL

Kurt Warner (former star quarterback of the Arizona Cardinals) was standing two feet away from me before he walked the carpet and a group of people mobbed him for his autograph. Two older ladies behind me were so giddy, it was too cute! Also, Kurt Warner is currently on Dancing with the Stars.

In other unrelated news, it's scorching hot on the first weekend of fall and I'm sitting here online browsing for boots! When peep toe booties debut a few seasons ago, it was not love at first sight. Initially, it did not make sense to me, because doesn't the peep toe feature defeat the purpose of keeping one's feet warm?? LOL Perhaps it's due to continuous exposure, but I'm loving them this season with tights or over the knee socks:) I stumbled upon the UK shop, Dorothy Perkins, and found some deals on shoes & booties that's too good to keep to myself! Felt a bit rebellious last Sunday: Wore white AFTER Labor Day & a petite no-no, wide leg jeans haha! I just had to utilize my summer wardrobe as much as possible on the last weekend of the season:)

To my friends who celebrate...Happy Mid-Autumn Festival! The weather was quite cool today, although the temperature is suppose to climb to 90 degrees tomorrow and stay warm during the weekend LOL Not quite fall weather, but no complaints here:) I received a nice surprise this past Saturday through snail mail. Remember how I longed for a bucket bag in this post? I won the very bucket bag I was raving about, Melie Bianco's "Keira"!! I have felt so blessed this past few weeks since I also won Sher's giveaway courtesy of Daniel Footwear. Thank you, THANK YOU! I'm smiling from ear to ear...seriously!:D

I took out my newly acquired bag for a spin this weekend and received quite a few compliments on it! I was pleasantly surprised with the excellent craftsmanship, especially since it's faux leather. I just love the surrounding chain detailing and the option of wearing it crossbody with an adjustable, removable strap. I didn't get a chance to snap a picture of the interior, but it has the most adorable polka dot liner with ample pockets for cellphone, keys, etc. A dust bag was also included. The "Keira" is even more stunning in person and I love, LOVE it!! Thank you, Team Melie Bianco & Sincerely Jules for this amazing giveaway!!

Bff and my mom loves the "Keira", too. Mom wants to borrow it! Haha! Isn't my mother stylish?;) So I'm thinking ahead for some holiday shopping fun...is it too early?? Saw the pin above at a cute little coffee shop while catching up with a friend LOL!

Don't laugh...but I recently joined a local knitting/crochet group:D I was pleasantly surprised to see a few other girls near my age. It was such a nice way to unwind in the evening and meet new folks. Everyone was so nice and willing to teach us knitting/crocheting amateurs the proper techniques. I admit that I'm not very good at it! I first learned how to knit awhile ago in college. A bunch of us girls got together in a friend's dorm room, while another friend gave us a tutorial. We knitted while eating fondue...I know quite the combo, right? LOL Fun times!

I've aways loved the Anthropologie headband Whitney wore in The City. Doesn't she look adorable? I'm hoping to knit one just like hers in an upcoming project. Wish me luck...'coz I really need it;)

I've been knitting on and off since college, but my humble skills have yielded terrible looking projects haha! Some scarves just look awful with uneven rows and filled with holes due to dropped stitches. I hope that this knitting group will help me hone my skills a bit. The sweet ladies in the group are so talented! They created beautiful blankets, afghans and adorable socks! While catching up with a friend, we indulged in wayyy too much desserts LOL Nothing like tiramisu, chocolate fudge sundaes, and girl talk after a stressful week:) Following our gluttony, I quickly ducked into JC Penneys to use the restroom. I don't make frequent trips to Penneys, but I was quite impressed with the clothing selection. They also had a nice set up for their MNG by Mango collaboration below...

I was expecting more affordable price points for Mango's collaboration with JC Penney, but it was still a bit pricey even with the 20% off promotion. There were a few notable pieces such as their flat booties and trench. Personally, I don't think it's worth the $100 price tag. This girl will be waiting for a MAJOR sale:)

The initial 5 minute restroom break turned into one hour of browsing around the store haha! After checking out Mango, I found Charlotte Ronson for JC Penney nearby. Most of the I Heart Ronson Fall 2010 collection was on sale for 30%-50% off. The price points were affordable, but I probably would not pay full price for any of the items (i.e. Dress for $50). The two dresses below looked much better in person and were just $24.99 each after discounts.

A small review on a few pieces from Charlotte Ronson for JC Penney...

I really liked this dress and would have loved to pair it with layers for fall. Unfortunately, the I Heart Ronson sizing runs slightly larger. The dress above is in XS and the shoulders were still a bit too wide for me (blast these narrow shoulders!).

Scoop neck dress $24.99 (Orig. $50)
This dress actually has a cute mini polka dot pattern, but again it was a tad too large on the shoulder and armpit areas. Love the style, but the mediocre material is definitely not worth the full $50 price tag.

These two pieces were my favorites from the collection. I love the comfort and versatility of the oversized boyfriend shirt. I'm also loving the print of this skirt and the belt (included). This skirt actually fits true to size. I may return and purchase the boyfriend shirt.

Bottom Line: I'm a fan of the I Heart Ronson collection and would love to see more from the next installment. The great thing about JC Penney is that they're generous with discounts and sales, so you don't have to wait too long:) What's your take on I Heart Ronson? Happy weekend, dear friends! To my US friends, who's excited about having Monday off?? Woot! I was a bit bummed that our Labor Day weekend plans fell through. We were suppose to venture on a mini roadtrip, but last minute scheduling conflicts prevailed. I cheered myself up a bit by hanging out and biking by the beach with the fam. It was nice to escape the scorching temperature, too!

I haven't had a chance to hit up the mall, but there were some ah-mah-zing deals online:) It's definitely a good time to stock up on some basics, particularly (what I like to call) luxury basics. Brands such as VELVET and Splendid are my favorite go to labels for soft, comfy, and modern basics. Unfortunately, due to the hefty price tag, I usually wait for MAJOR markdowns. If you're a fan of luxury basics, then now is the time to stock up:) Wear it alone during the last warm days of summer and layer it up later...

I'm looking forward to the comeback of the maxi skirt this fall! Even though I'm vertically challenged (just under 5'3") and this is probably not the most flattering look for my frame, I can't wait to add this piece to my weekend rotation. I own a solitary slim, black maxi skirt, which I've had FOREVER. I believe it's turning ten by the end of this year LOL Is that considered vintage?? The weather here in Southern California is still a bit warm for clingy and streamlined maxis, even with a tank top. Rescuing my skirt from the abyss of storage will have to be done a bit later.

Many bloggers are jumping on the maxi trend and I'm inspired by the various stylings I came across. I love how Phuong, Ida, and Chiara wore theirs! As for my favorite pairings for fall...I'm smitten by M&Ms (that also includes the chocolate variety btw).

Not too long ago, I stumbled upon Susannah Conway's lovely blog. She's currently hosting The August Break as a way to relieve some of the pressures of blogging. Basically, we share a picture a day or more here on our blogs for the month of August. There are no set rules. Thinking I sailed through downtown traffic, I spoke too soon when signs ahead indicated a nearly 2 hour wait on an upcoming freeway. There was a terrible accident that closed down almost all lanes. Unfortunately, this was the only freeway to reach home, so I pulled into a nearby Target to kill some time. I figured I should attempt to be efficient and pick up some supplies for the party this weekend.

I'm sure many of you can relate when shopping at Target. Caitlin of Candyfloss & Persie wrote an awesome post on a love/hate relationship with good 'ol Tar-jay. I LOVE this store and I almost always manage to buy the necessities plus random unneeded extras that I can't resist! Exhibit A: I went straight to the shoe section instead of to the party supplies. I found these unbelievably comfy, heeled sandals for...wait for it...$3.48 (Orig. $19.99)?!! The bracelet was also on clearance for $2.50!! Rummage through your local Target ASAP:) Lots of sales and clearance items throughout the store!

Exhibit B: Don't even ask why I found a bread basket and a $5 (on clearance) tomato planter kit LOL Did I leave Target with party supplies? Of course not. I bought everything, but plates and napkins. So...can anyone else commiserate?:)

Happy weekend! I apologize for the slow response to your comments. I'm currently out of town visiting friends, but I will do my best to reply to you guys asap! Oh man, I was suckered into playing volleyball this weekend and I know my body will be aching tomorrow. I had a slight phobia with v-ball ever since a ball hit me smack dab on the face when I was a wee fifth grader haha! Today, after a failed attempt at spiking the ball and hitting the floor HARD, I resigned to playing monkey in the middle with some friends' kids. I was the monkey the entire game lol

What do you guys think of this color theme for the birthday soiree? Do you think it fits my baby sis? (See description below)

My baby sis is turning 19 and I don't know where my head has been the last few days, but I thought I had another week to finish planning her surprise get together!! Brainstorming sessions has turned my brain to mush in addition to the million things that needs to be done, but I finally decided on the color theme above. My sweet baby sister is a rocker girl with the perfect balance of girly and edgy in her personal style. She plays the piano, but also loves to jam on her electric guitar. She loves tough boots, but also indulges in pretty florals (seriously, this girl owns almost every item in the Liberty of London for Target collection haha). She wears edgy haircuts, but also adorns her hair in bows and flowers. Basically, she's just one cool chica and she's growing up too quickly (sniff sniff ). Since I'm pressed for time, I'm shooting for simplicity with shades of blush and soft pink. I think the black accents keep the color palette from turning too sugary sweet on this inspiration board. I'm dreaming of Alexander Wang "Diego"...

So I've been wanting a bucket style handbag for nearly a year now. Of course, my dream handbag is not attainable at the moment (and probably not for a long while lol). Yes, I have a serious bag crush on Alexander Wang's "Diego" bag...sigh. Looking back, I've always loved the bucket style ever since I was quite young. I remember my mom toting one back in the late 80s/early 90s. I thought it was so fabulous! I wish she had held on to it, plus it would have been vintage by now! My aunties carried one and so did the older girls I looked up to. I suppose I associated this bag with some kind of right of passage lol...the girls just seemed so grown up with their stylin' bucket bags! I promised my primary school aged self that I would purchase one when I "became of age" haha!

Recently, I developed a blog crush on Sincerely Jules and was completely smitten by her bucket bag in this post. I immediately scrolled down to find the brand and googled away. I'm so glad many of the fashion bloggers include their outfit details:) Her bag was by Melie Bianco and I anticipated its value to be a few hundred dollars, but it was just under $100! Hello, blogging friends! I apologize for my two week break. I have been volunteering at a local children's summer program and wow, I'm pooped! I was assigned six to seven little boys and they're all under the age of ten. As you can imagine, they're very, very active! LOL I love all my kids, but at the end of each day, I'm so exhausted haha! I suppose this is good practice for the future;) Much like summer camp, we rotate through different stations and of course, all my boys just love play time at the gym haha Yesterday, they worked with clay during craft time and I was blown away with their creative work! Lazy Sunday

Happy Weekend! I'm trying to soak up as much beach time as I can this summer (safely with sunscreen & a wide brimmed floppy hat, of course!:)). We ventured to the Palos Verdes area and took the family dog to a local dog beach, just a short hike down from Mr. Trump's golf course (Remember The Apprentice? Season 1 winner, Bill Rancic, was given a choice between managing this course and a building project in Chicago. He chose the latter). The LAPD was hosting a celebrity golf tournament at this course and I kinda wish we took a peek as we walked through lol! After yet another stressful week, today was one of the best remedies..laughing, silliness and catching up with the people I love:) How are you spending your weekend, friends?

I finally had a chance to watch the premiere episode of Project Runway and wow, it's actually 90 minutes long this season. I won't give anything away, but I have to disagree with the judges' decision to send home this first contestant. Anyway, I was thinking back to my favorite Project Runway designers and I thought of Leanne Marshall of Season 5 (also the winner!). On a whim, I visited her etsy shop Leanimal and discovered that she has a blog!:) I will definitely be following/stalking haha! Do you guys remember her stunning collection for the finale show at Bryant Park? It still remains one of my favorite collections from the show. I just love her modern take on petals and wave-like embellishments. Oh and that gorgeous aqua color! Please design a dress for me, Leanne:) haha!

Sometimes, having a creative outlet helps me destress. I decided to do a simple (and budget friendly) DIY with a plain white tee this weekend. This DIY has probably been done before lol, so I won't claim it as my own:P I was inspired by this Catherine Malandrino dress that I thought of renting from Rent the Runway. I just love the strap with its intertwined fabric and chain details. Here are the materials used:

The directions for this DIY are very simple. It just requires snipping the headband, fabric, chain, etc. into desired length and sewing the ends into the inside portion of the top. I'm not the best seamstress, so this was all sewed by hand lol The resulting product should look something like this:

TIP: Prior to sewing the ends of each strap, I highly recommend wearing the shirt and pinning each end of the strap to desired location.

Just Breathe...

I had a different post in mind today. I won't bore you guys with the details:) but I'm not having the best week. Some unresolved issues have occurred in my personal life that's slowly creeping back and to be frank, I haven't felt truly myself in quite some time. Everything from career decisions to relationships have somehow turned awry. I suppose I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by these issues and life's demands.

As many bloggers have expressed, the blogosphere is such a great way to connect with people. I have ran across a few posts all with similar struggles and frustrations...so please know that you are not alone:) I think sometimes we just need to take a step back and breathe...

Sorry for the venting session, friends:) I promise my next post will be a little more cheerful and more fashion related LOL I really wanted to thank you guys for supporting my 'lil 'ol blog here. Seriously, each and every single comment makes my day...really:) I'm so glad that we have somehow connected and found each other in the blogging world (Excuse my corniness...I'm a little emotional today haha).

On a brighter note, a small package made its way from the Netherlands and made my day! (You all know how much I love snail mail) I recently won a giveaway on Urban Style Vibes and I just wanted to thank Lise for sending these beautiful necklaces! Staycation

Hello from Laguna Beach!

Happy weekend! One of the advantages of living in Southern California is the abundance of beach options, only a short drive away. We decided to escape the sweltering temperatures and headed to Laguna Beach. It was a pleasant 80 degrees when we arrived:) Have you ever experienced a day so hot that any movement causes your body to burn from the heat?? That's precisely how I felt the past few days. The temps have reached 100 degrees! I'm melting...this trip to the OC is a much needed break!

I haven't been to Laguna in ages! My last visit here, we were in town for the arts festival the area is known for. We went on short a hike with views of the coastline. It was quite hazy today, but the bluish hue is actually the ocean LOL

We saw Laguna Beach High School on our way to the hike. Yep, this where it all started...MTV's Laguna Beach and The Hills and also, where the producers discovered Lauren Conrad and Kristin Cavallari. I finally saw the finale of The Hills lol I'm such a closet fan:P

Checked out the tide pools and enjoyed the Laguna sunset while waiting for a table at Las Brisas.

Sigh...I don't want to leave haha! I'm not quite ready to endure another hot day, but real life awaits. This trip has got me craving for these Carribean blues...

Is it just me or is time just flying by?? I can't believe we're closing in on another weekend (not that I'm complaining). Some relatives from out of state came to visit this past weekend. My younger cousins are so adorable (all four kids, between the ages of 11 and 15)! I can still recall babysitting them when they could barely walk. Now, they have grown to be such sweet kids and also, so intelligent and articulate. I felt oh so old!

A peek into the newly launched King Kong 360 3D at Universal Studios Hollywood

I have been to Universal Studios Hollywood countless times, but this is definitely one of my favorite visits. It was a first for my cousins and they LOVED it! They were under the spell of Hollywood and enamored by its movie-making magic lol After checking out most of the rides and shows, we headed for the behind the scenes studio tour. The Backlot has always been one of my favorite attractions and we were fortunate enough to see the newer sets that were recently built (as a result of a fire in June 2008). Also, we had the opportunity to experience Peter Jackson's King Kong 360 3D attraction. We felt like we stumbled into the movie, "Avatar" (the same visual effects studio was used for this attraction). I won't give anything away...but it was awesome!

After a whole day of frolicking in Universal Studios, my feet were exhausted! I really need to invest in a pair of comfortable yet stylish flats/slip-ons for the summer. I do love wedges and espadrilles, but not for outings that require long periods of standing/walking:) Lately, I'm loving Toms shoes and it would fit right in with my summer shoes rotation. Unfortunately, I must save up some funds first:) I also found these below to have lots of potential and they're all under $40!

I'm definitely a believer in mixing high and low items. On occasion, I like to splurge on more expensive items that are timeless. I like to think of these purchases as investments:) Lately, these type of splurges have been reduced to null haha! Olivia Palermo is a prime example of mastering the fusion of the high and low. Yes, "The City" is my guilty pleasure:) I'm not quite a fan of her attitude on the show, but the girl's got style! She was featured on Vogue UK's "Today I'm Wearing..." segment, in which she shared her outfits for the month of April. I love how she seamlessly mixes pieces from Zara, Topshop and Ann Taylor with more expensive items.

I feel that there is a misconception when it comes to attaining higher end and brand name items for those of us who are budget consicous. I believe that it's more accessible than many people think. Even a few friends have expressed that they wish they could afford more expensive brands and are always surprised when I find brand name items at affordable prices (i.e. Hudson & Paige denim for 60% off retail...thanks to Marshalls!). With the advent of online sample sites, such as GILT and the Outnet, high end labels are even more accessible to those of us with smaller funds. Although, these sites are not the only resources available.

If you don't mind waiting it out for end of season sales or hunting through jumbled merchandise in retailers, such as Loehmanns, TJ Maxx & Marshalls (love these places!!), it's possible to purchase designer items at highly discounted prices:) For example, I found a beautiful Vivienne Tam khaki blazer for $20 on clearance at TJ Maxx (unfortunately, it was one size too large so it had to stay). I also found Rag & Bone blazers for about 70% off retail (now i'm kicking myself for not getting one lol) Anyway, the point is that it is possible to find higher end labels at discounted rates. Yes, it's true that most of these merchandise will be from past seasons, but for the most part we can make it work;)

While we're on the subject of deal hunting, I recently came across mytheresa.com. Actually, I found it by pure accident (not quite sure how?? It's so easy to lose yourself in the web these days lol). The company is much like net-a-porter with many luxury designer items in their inventory. They are based in Germany and unfortunately, international shipping is a wee bit pricey. I was browsing through mytheresa.com's summer sale section and was quite blown away by their prices.

The prices are not exactly dirt cheap, but they're quite a bargain for designers such as Chloe, Miu Miu, DVF, and more. Here are a few noteworthy items I found in their clearance section...

I had some trouble restraining myself at the mall. I made a quick stop at one of my favorite stores, Madewell. The sale was ridiculous! Purchased jeans for $15 and three tops for $7.50 each?!!

Piggybacking off my previous post, I'm still quite enamored by the nautical theme. Why is it that this trend lives on each spring/summer season? Probably because it's so gosh darn cute! Happy 4th of July, friends! Hope you're all enjoying your weekend and grubbing on yummy grilled food:) I'm exhausted from all the festivities, but I had fun times this holiday weekend. I spent the past few days in the company of great people and good food;) We had a small bbq bash so to get into the spirit of the 4th, I went for red, white & blue decor with a nautical twist. Blame it on the summer season, but I'm really feeling the nautical vibes lately haha To stay within budget, I stuck to good 'ol DIY projects (plus it's therapeutic somehow lol). I found some inspiration and tutorials on the internet for the party decor (some really talented people out there!).

I was inspired by ...love Maegan's table runners that she created for a friend's baby shower. I followed in her footsteps and found scrap fabric for quite cheap at JoAnn's clearance aisle, then cut them into small sections. The origami candy boat was inspired by a nautical themed wedding from Canadian Bridal. My friend, A (a.k.a. origami master ;)), created these boats with scrapbook paper I purchased from Michaels (on sale for $.21 each!).

As much as I love a good pair of denim or khaki shorts (especially in this heat!), I'm thinking of mixing it up a bit with tap shorts. Yes, I admit, some appear lingerie-esque, but I can't seem to resist its comfy appeal. What's not to love with its lightweight material, breathable shape and variations from simple silhouettes to feminine ruffles. I first saw these BCBGeneration pair below at Macy*s and have been obsessed ever since! I just love the scalloped detailing along the hem. Please go on sale soon...

Another reason I'm drawn to tap shorts is due to its versatility. Throw on a pair of heels and a dressy top and you might just be able to get away with wearing shorts to a soiree;)

We saw tap shorts all over the Spring 2010 runway shows, but $300-$600 for one pair?? OK, I sheepishly admit that I could justify paying that much or more for a handbag (oh to own a Balenciaga city or classic Chanel *sigh*), but for a pair of shorts?? No thanks...:)

Hello, Blogging Friends! I apologize for yet another hiatus. I can't believe it has been over a month since my last post! I have missed you all! Life has just been crazy for me and time is passing by so quickly! One of the reasons for my absence is due to my wedding planner duties, even though I do not work in the wedding industry(though it would be fun if I did!). Two of my good friends have just tied the knot during two separate weekends (two weekends in a row!). We have been working hard to finish the last minute details and what not. I am so happy and excited for their big days! It felt just like yesterday, we were raucous college kids haha...not really, but we did have fun times:)

I haven't had a chance to comb through all the wedding pictures, but I wanted to share with you guys a little peek of the wedding craziness. I have always known that weddings were a lot of work, but it did not really hit me until I went through the process with my friends. It's like preparing for a big production! Even after booking the main things such as photographer, venues, and caterer, I couldn't believe the amount of "small" details that accumulated up to the wedding day!

My friend wanted unique table numbers for the reception and was inspired by playing cards. In lieu of traditional playing cards, I created these above and incorporated her wedding colors. Thank goodness for the awesome flickr program, picnik.com, for those of us who are photoshop illiterate:)

This has been the state of my car...a jumble of fabric bolts, gifts, decor, and yes...that's the wedding gown in the background lol I was not only the planner/coordinator, but also a mover/chauffeur haha!

(1) The bride purchased this awesome radio flyer wagon for her adorable ring bearer (he was less than a year and not able to walk, yet). I made the sign above, but didn't anticipate how long it would take just to glue each flower around the border lol (2) I love this cake card box idea my friend found online. Making this box was a collaboration between me, the bride, and the mother of the bride:) I love how it turned out! What do you guys think? Can you believe it took me two and half hours just to wrap these boxes?! If you have ever made one, I would love to hear your experience/tips:)

I really admire wedding planners and coordinators who plan and organize these events as a living. I salute you! Overall, I had a wonderful time playing the role of wedding planner/coordinator for my friends, but wowsers...I am exhausted! haha! I experienced anxiety and frustrations when things did not occur as planned (i.e. a missing wedding cake), but alas these things are inevitable:) Nothing could have prepared me for the lack of sleep, stress, chaos, etc. for these big days lol Despite the craziness, I am so happy for my friends as they begin a new chapter in their lives and also, grateful for allowing me to be a part of their special day.

Thank you for all your suggestions regarding my closet dilemma:) You guys have such great ideas! Extra Petite suggested that I take before and after shots. Thanks for the idea! Now I just need to get started! lol Please bear with me and my inconsistent postings for a few more weeks, friends. I have a few more upcoming events, including a 60s themed retirement party this evening. I have been so busy with the weddings that I have neglected finding a costume! I'm thinking of channeling a 'lil bit of Jacky O.? Wasn't she lovely...

Spring Cleaning

Last week, I had the opportunity to be a part of The Ellen DeGeneres Show with my good friend, D. We had a blast dancing and screaming in the studio audience lol! If you keep up with the show, you know how much Ellen loves to dance! We saw her up close as she danced her way up the stairs!! Unfortunately, there were no picture taking allowed inside the studio, so I only have these pictures to show you guys.

The special guests were Lisa Kudrow (a.k.a. Phoebe of "Friends") and Steve Goldberg, a former WWF wrestler. We also enjoyed an awesome live performance of "Nothin On You" by B.o.B featuring Bruno Mars! During the show, Lisa Kudrow informed Ellen that she was related to Madonna?? (Crazy, right?! haha) Initially, I thought she was joking, but she later produced papers that traced Ellen's roots, complete with a family tree. The papers explained her family ties to Madonna! Talk about a small world!

Ellen was hilarious especially during her monologue! She opened with spring cleaning and the contraptions they created to "help" with the process. Check her out above in a smokin' Barbie power wheels, equipped with multiple swiffers to minimize floor cleaning time haha!

Hmm, I don't exactly have power wheels lying around to help with my spring cleaning, so I thought I would turn to you guys for some help:) Lately, it's just been crazy and I haven't found the time to organize my closet. I wouldn't consider myself a messy person, but with the lack of hours in a day, my closet says otherwise.

So what are your suggestions for organizing my closet...

I would love to hear your tips! Seriously, I'm too embarassed to show you the current state of my closet haha! How would you suggest organizing accessories such as belts, socks, etc.? Snail Mail

Not too long ago, I received the cards above from friends via snail mail...yes, snail mail!! There was no special occasion involved, just a simple "Hello! How are you?" My friends' encouraging words couldn't have come at a better time. I was feeling down in the dumps and somehow their notes arrived one day after another! Life is funny sometimes, just when you needed a boost, small yet thoughtful gestures find their way to you! Please bear with my corny self:)

This card below was among the first to arrive and I couldn't helped but laugh! My good friend, H, wrote a small dialogue between these giraffes...apparently, I was the one on the right haha!

So what is it about receiving snail mail that seems a tad bit sweeter than an e-mail/text/facebook message/etc.? As much as I enjoy the social media (although my lack of posting here says otherwise. Sorry!), there is just something about receiving a tangible letter or card. Despite the rising costs of postage and the convenience of e-mail or facebook, doesn't it make your day extra brighter when unexpected mail arrives? (Not in the form of bills, of course haha)

I apologize for the lag in blogging and visitation of your lovely blogs, friends! This week felt like a blur with too many things on my plate lol I have missed visiting your blogs, so I will definitely be dropping by asap:) With hectic weeks like these, do you guys ever feel like you just can't be bothered when it comes to styling?

Lately, I have been drawn to chambray, mostly for its versatility. For days that I can't be bothered, I will definitely be looking to chambray pieces for my go-to outfits. How can you go wrong with a button down chambray top?:) Rihanna seems to be ahead of the curve since she was spotted in this sweet ensemble last year (Seriously, what CAN'T Rihanna pull off?? She always looks amazing!).

I just love her preppy take on this trend especially with those pearls! I am definitely a denim kinda gal, but I'm still on the fence when it comes to this season's head to toe denim trend. As often as I wear jeans, I can't seem to bring myself to wear a full on denim ensemble! (though I do love denim rompers) I suppose I'll have to take in the trend in small doses:) What's your take on head to toe denim? Love it or leave it?

TGIF!:) I'm so happy that another weekend is upon us! Several commenters asked whether or not I will be renting from Rent The Runway and if I have decided on a dress. The first wedding of the season was last weekend and I just didn't get around to renting a dress. I will most likely rent for the next event in a few weeks! I will definitely let you know about my rental experience! Several of the commenters mentioned that they have rented from this company and had nothing but wonderful things to say. There seems to be early signs of spring ahead and I'm ready to shed the winter coat and wear some pretty spring dresses! Transitional winter to spring wear has been quite tricky for me, especially with this fickle weather. I'm not sure if I should put my jacket away, because it was quite chilly and wet just a few days ago and who knows how long this spring-like weather will last:)

The lovely bloggers below seem to have the perfect balance! I wasn't too crazy about high-waisted shorts when they first debut a few seasons ago, but I think I'm beginning to warm up to this look. How chic are these lovely ladies in their ensemble?? I just love how Lena of elenita.no wore a feminine blouse with her shorts while Louise of Pandora incorporated a cape with hers.
